Na Makau (Fishing Hooks) ~ Working Towards Sustainability:
Na Makau (The Three Fishing Hooks) symbolize the connection to Keaukaha as an ocean community. It establishes a sense of sustainability for individuals, families, and community members as the ocean has provided this community with life. As a group of three, it signifies a relational triangle of balance in different ways of learning -- the student, family, and school; the grandparent, parent, and child. The hipu`u, or tie of the aho (rope) to the makau (fishing hook) establishes the bond to knowledge passed from one generation to another.
